FIBRENO: A Story of Color for Life
The story of Korean fashion brand FIBRENO begins not in a design studio, but in the hands of a six-year-old girl with a box of 64 crayons. Founder and designer Iris Lim’s journey is a vibrant tapestry woven from childhood memories, cross-cultural experiences, and a steadfast belief in the power of color.
The Genesis: Crayons and a Global Perspective
Iris’s artistic path was set in motion when she moved from South Korea to Indonesia at a young age. The only thing she made sure to pack was her beloved 64-color crayon set. "I grew to love drawing and design," she recalls, "and the colors found in Indonesia’s nature became a huge source of inspiration for me". This early immersion in a new culture, surrounded by the rich tapestry of international friends at the Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS), gave her a global perspective and the confidence to communicate with anyone—a trait that would later prove invaluable for a global brand.
Her high school years at JIS were a playground for her creativity. She immersed herself in a wide range of artistic disciplines, from drawing and sculpture to jewelry making and batik. "These early experiences have been invaluable in shaping my brand," she says, noting how they directly influenced FIBRENO's expansion into ceramics, jewelry, and silk scarves.
The Dream Takes Shape: From Scraps to a Brand
While pursuing graphic design at university, an unexpected internship at a leather goods company became the crucible for her dream. It was there, after work, that she would collect leftover leather scraps, take them home, and experiment. "That's when I began nurturing my dream," she reflects.
That dream became a reality in 2013 with the founding of FIBRENO in Seoul. Built upon the concept of "Color for Life," the brand started with leather stationery before expanding into handbags, clothing, and jewelry. The brand's philosophy is rooted in the idea of a "Color Library," offering a spectrum of shades that allows individuals to express their unique identity through minimalist and modern designs. FIBRENO supports every woman in expressing her own unique color and style.
